Chuck Taylor was paid almost nothing for having his name on the 'All-Star Shoes'

Chuck Taylor was a high school basketball player. He was hired in 1921 by Converse to be the spokesman for their ‘All Star’ basketball shoes, which were not selling well at the time. Based on his experience as a player, Taylor also helped improve the shoes. You know the rest, Chuck Taylors became hugely successful and have remained for over 80 years.

However, Chuck Taylor was a salaried employee of Converse. This means that he wasn’t paid any royalties or any extra money for having his name and signature on the shoes. Converse has sold over 600 million pairs of Chuck Taylor branded shoes.
