Destiny is a fucking midget beta male gusano fuck (we ended our parasocial relationship yesterday)

Expressing positivity is not ‘white-knighting’,

a blanket-judgment term I’ve seen used here for any kind of behaviour/view that doesn’t align with this sub’s seemingly default attitude of ‘we’re angry at OWI’.

My position is, at some point, we’ve got to start thinking about the future and how we’re going to make it r/Oddworld’s (and OWI’s) best possible version of it.

We definitely won’t get there by stifling positivity in the face of the naysayers mentioned in my title. I’ll put this here so we can revisit this topic a few years down the line:

RemindMe! December 15, 2024

When positivity is seen as white-knighting and excitement is seen as overhyping, it says more about the people trying to snuff out opinions different than theirs than anything, and it definitely speaks to a community that has been mired in cynicism for too long.

The r/Oddworld mods see these posts and comments — if they have any issues with them, I’ll be happy to enter a dialogue.

Not opposed to criticism, even harsh criticism whatsoever — I only have an issue with the way it’s expressed.

Saying

‘I’m curious about some non-pandemic, non-distributed development related components to OWI’s release strategies, and knowing they are incorporating our feedback would be really beneficial in mitigating that’

Takes a lot more effort to type than

‘OWI are lazy and don’t listen to their community’,

But one will be met with appreciation and understanding from the devs, while the other will cause distancing between the community and creators at best, and seriously impact their confidence and passion/motivation at worst.

It costs absolutely nothing, as an individual or community, to create an energy of optimism, constructive criticism and passion, which is always an environment that produces better quality conversation, momentum and something called hope, which Lorne once described as our most endangered resource.

They have their part to do, and we have ours, otherwise it’s us dragging them down, not the other way round.

Seriously u/ElectricS I am confident that to be as passionate enough about Oddworld to enter this kind of dialogue, it’s a fair bet that you want to see them succeed — that literally makes us one and the same.

I hope going forward we can find more common ground and direct this energy towards making this place flourish 👍
