Error in the new minions movie

In the movie Minions: The Rise of Gru, the motorcyclist invites the minion wearing braces to ride with him up the coast to San Francisco. While they were riding up the coast, the ocean was on the right, or in the east. This is wrong because if you’re driving north, on the west coast, then the water would be on the left, or to the west.
