Next steps

Queen Elizabeth II will have a state funeral and it will likely be the biggest funeral the world has ever seen.

According to reports, the funeral and subsequent coronation will each cost GDP an estimated £6 billion.

But this could be dwarfed by his much the country will have to pay for organizational changes such as police uniforms, post boxes, government signage and other cosmetic changes.

Whilst there are undoubtedly lots of people who will defend the eye-watering sums of money spent on a deceased billionaire they’ve never met, there are also millions of people against the idea of UK residents paying for the funeral in a massive cost of living crisis.

And before anyone tries to use the “tourism” argument, you should be aware that the data on Royal Family tourism figures (from VisitBritain) were debunked almost 10 years ago – no official data has been made available since to the British public on how much revenue the Royal Family actually brings to the country.

Basically the idea that the Royal Family bring in more than we pay for – is a myth!

The Queen’s death, as sad as it is, cannot have come at a worse time.

With a large number of the population being forced into making the gut-wrenching decision of whether to turn on their heating or have food on the table this winter – and maybe not even having a choice! The Queen’s death and this extra spend and extra admin does mark a monumental & disruptive moment in the history of “Great Britain”.

If you’re upset about one old lady dying. You’re going to be really upset this winter and lose your sh** when you find out about the socio-economic crisis which is going to kill an estimated 12,000 and plunge many more to the brink by end of winter!

It’s a discussion worth having – so don’t knock those people that think differently to you, when there’s very good reasons for doing so.

PS. And this doesn’t include arguments over their German heritage, changing their surname to Windsor to hide that heritage, colonialism generally (let’s not even go there!), destruction of entire races and cultures, incest, protection of (and maybe worse) sex traffickers and p*dos, using public funds to fly on private jets and generally do everything else that flies in the face of what they say about climate change etc.

We don’t need to focus on their hypocrisy and actions. Just basic facts on cost benefit analysis 👍

Anyway. Hope people realise the Royal Family are not eternally and widely liked as much as the press portray. Far from it!

And we need to have this conversation about our public money being put to good use for our people and our country’s future 🙏
