The Lego Market is in shambles

Have you heard of the beloved and famous 2022 Lego Set 40570-1 Cat and Mouse? This set fall’s into “Miscellaneous” theme group, and is a Normal typed set. This set is tagged as seasonal, and is currently unavailable. Set to release October 1st 2022. With a standard price of $12.99 USD, and a piece count of 328. This set clocks in at an average of 4.0 ¢ USD per piece. This is an average rate for sets this size, however many retailers may effectively change this rate drastically. Considering that this set has fairly average and common piece types. This set may be wildly overpriced. A sad fate that may also hit set 40571-1 also releasing later this year. The IALPP (individual average lego piece price) is raising by a large margin across a multitude of departments and set types. The effect that this may have on the Lego brand as a whole, may be catastrophic. This raise in the IALPP has been nicknamed as the 40423 effect. Named after the infamous 2020 set 40423-1 Halloween Hayride, that had a ridiculous piece of 8.9¢ per piece. The IALPP has dropped greatly since then, but the proposed price for 40570-1 shows that the effect may return in even greater force than before.
