Who else was disappointed by the lack of BIPOC representation in Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul.

Shout-out to all my fellow white guys out there! Hey everyone, long time reader, first time poster. One thing that’s struck me about BB and BCS is that it’s…a little different from modern television. And not in a good way. Modern TV and film are generous with the screen time given to women and people of color. In fact, I’d never seen so many black people in the same room before Marvel’s *Black Panther* came out! And I could literally FEEL the “electricidad” in the air when I rented *In The Heights* on YouTube. The hispanic joy was a welcome guest in my studio apartment. The amount of whiteness on screen for both BB and BCS made me extremely uncomfortable. BB features two white men as the main characters, and BCS features YET AGAIN more white men. When there is a man of color (like Gus), he is an antagonist. Another black bad guy…yeah, as if we don’t get enough of that in real life! Who’s with me in hoping that there can be remakes in the near future, featuring recasts of the main characters as strong women. I’d love to see the producers learn from the success of *Star Wars: The Last Jedi* in their female and POC representation. *The Last Jedi’*s critical acclaim among Buzzfeed and MSNBC reporters alone should be proof enough that they (as in the director, don’t need to assume THEIR pronouns) are doing something right! I’d love to see female versions of the main characters who are able to accomplish EASILY the same things that the boys struggled with. For strong, empowered females in *Breaking Bad*, we have who? Lydia Rodarte-Quayle? How about we get the story told from her perspective, so that we can at least check one of these boxes? I’m sure that the white female audience will relate to a high-strung, neurotic, manipulative beneficiary of affirmative action, as most of them also are likely to be. And remember, there is not ONE queer person of color in ANY of the BB related media. I mean, I guess there’s Gus, but let’s be honest if you close your eyes you can completely forget that he is black. Like lol, let’s get someone in the role that can really walk the walk and talk the (jive) talk. I’d also be happier to see him gayer as well. Oh and don’t get me started on the PROBLEMATIC speech of Hank Schrader. I was literally shaking whenever he would speak to his LatinX partner Jesus Sanchez, or whatever his name was. His liberal (in the worst sense of the word!) use of the word “beaner” is NOT FUNNEY. My mother’s boyfriend is a hispanic, and he was laughing his head off during those scenes. He just doesn’t understand what those people suffered through, systemically. Sometimes I really think that Mexican guys are the “White Males” of the LatinX community. I want to see Hank killed off a lot more quickly in the improved remake. And maybe make him, like, an Asian guy too, while we’re at it. Anyhoo, I just wanted to reach out to see if there were any other “blue-no-matter-who” souls out there who wanted to commiserate on how we could improve the series to serve our colored brothers and sisters. The floor is yours, now, comrades! Please just be mindful of those others who may be sensitive to strong language or loud noises.
