Yes, New Jersey is actually as bad as people say. Probably worse. I’m always ashamed to admit to people I was born and grew up there. My dad was an avid gun owner and got me interested in it but the whole experience was short-lived because of how many hoops we had to jump through to buy anything firearm related.

So how do you get a gun (legally) in New Jersey?

Step 1: apply for FID

Step 2: background checks, finger prints, 7 character references. wait two years for permit approval or denial.

Step 3: Suck off your local sheriff or pay a large bribe (think 20k range), file a petition with your local court, and after a county firearm committee determines that you are mentally fit, congrats now you can buy a 10 mag capped rifle or shotgun, after a wait period of 120 days for NICS but also for a special NJ Exclusive NICS.

Step 4: Want a handgun? Each handgun purchase requires a “pistol permit”. Two year wait for these as well. They expire every two weeks. You may get more than one permit at once, but you must get a separate permit for each handgun. So owning 4 handguns would require 104 permits per year. 10 round cap as well ofc.

Step 5: Want ammo to use your gun? Ammo is largely illegal in New Jersey and if you get caught bringing any across state lines you will lose all firearm permits and face criminal smuggling charges. Each Ammo permit allows you to purchase 7 rounds. You can only file 4 Ammo permit requests per month. There is an exemption for gun clubs but you need to pass an extensive interview process, 2 month firearm safety course, have sponsorship from 60% of your local police station, and wait 5 years to gain membership at a range.

These are just some of the old restrictions. The new restrictions are even worse.

Also this doesn’t even crack my top 10 reasons why New Jersey is a corrupt shithole
