Elitism exists in almost every hobby or lifestyle choice, what is the most ridiculous one you’ve encounter and how were you not a “real” (insert hobby or lifestyle choice here)?

  1. Just got back into cycling after a knee replacement and subsequently a very long hiatus. Now I have an electric assist bike and it brings me a ton of joy. “Real” roadies have nothing but distain. Went on a group ride one night and they shit talked me up and down. I ride solo now, but still smiling.

  2. Not me but I saw a guy comment once about the coffee following/subreddit. He had gotten a keurig and asked for some coffee suggestions and advice on the coffee subreddit and got ripped to shreds for it because a keurig “isn’t how you do coffee”
People are elitist for the weirdest things sometimes

  3. Weirdly enough I don’t think I’ve experienced any of that sort of gatekeeping in my hobbies. The closest I can think was when I was into tabletop minis people would semi jokingly say you can’t really get into this hobby unless you want to spend far too much money in plastic toys

  4. Every year for the past 10 years I have finished in the top 5 of my 12-person Fantasy Football league, and I’ve won the championship once.

Every year the rest of the league carefully explains to me that I just don’t understand either Football or Fantasy Football.

  5. When I was in high school we brought some perfectly fine kind bud to a party and this kid wouldn’t let us smoke it out of his bowl because he “only smokes Blueberry out of that thing.” This was in Colorado but way, way before prohibition ended and designer weed with a name was something you rarely ever came by, especially if you were high school kids. It was just such an absurd flex. Like who do you think you think you are kid?
