  1. Very important, if you look at the backgrounds of troubled people, there are always a lot of commonalities, absent mother/father, generational unemployment, drug/alcohol issues, abuse etc etc.

    No *one* thing guarantees that a kids future is set in stone, but the more of these things that are in a kids life, you’re stacking the odds against them and it’ll be a miracle if they manage to grow up to become decent, productive members of society.

    Edit: to the downvoters, there are plenty of normal and happy and complete people in this world who never had a dad. Mothers can also be substitutable. Get over it.

  3. I think it’s important that kids know their loved , but also that bad behavior isn’t tolerated.

    Also kids need a lot of attention, a network of support is helpful.

    Are those aspects of a “father figure”? Maybe. But I think you can get a lot of that without a present father.
