For those who were old enough to use the internet during the late 90s early 00s, what do you miss most about that era?

It was fun and whacky, nobody took it too seriously.
The video players. They actually loaded the whole thing and didn’t stop the instant the internet fritzed. They also let you replay endlessly.
Waiting for the dial up to finish. When that 4 and a 1/2 mins were up I’d pick the phone up just to watch my brother rage. Good times.
It was completely unfiltered and normies only existed in tiny niche groups
Real users.
Non toxic forums
The excitement of downloading a photo, song, etc. and watching the time of completion go from 5min to 2min to 34min. Pretty much it gave us a reason to let it do its thing, and we get back to real life.
“A/S/L?”
*You’ve got mail!* and the dial tone!
It was initially the domain of people with half a brain.
Was calmer. Less was there to see and do. Then it got better fast.
Chatrooms were fun. ICQ. Nobody could flex because a scanner wasn’t cheap to get your pics into your PC.
It was fun.
Flash games
Webcrawler chat rooms
(then)
Msn messenger
Monetization was rare, so content was sparse…but better quality.
Of course the old mIRC chat rooms that the scifi channel hosted. Or the thousands of kinky sex or warez chat rooms on the DALnet server.
The web used to be a nicer place. Social media brought out the worst in people.
Also more diversity in websites before large companies wiped out competition.
My youth
Chat rooms. Real-time conversation that doesn’t exist anymore in a text-chat format.
The dial up tone
Sending OOB packets to IRC trolls, crashing their computers.
Opening AIM or MSN messenger to see if any of your friends were online.
mosaic
The non-possibility of knowing it all. I loved the “mystery” that the lack of development and information the early internet had.
(Dunno if I explained myself clearly haha)
I miss young youtube lol. Before it got super censored. ebaums world. Prank calls. Limewire. Lol the good old days
Man, you could spend all day playing games on Neopets or on Runescape with Winamp playing music you got from ***extremely*** questionable websites…
Until your mom answered the fucking phone
The only thing I miss from that era is Napster.
The fact that it was more about creating than consuming.
AOL instant messenger, crappy free-host sites like Angelfire and GeoCities, MIDI background music, the old guitar tab archive, etc.
