Gangsters, drug dealers, smugglers and other hustlers of reddit, what is something that the media portrays incorrectly all the time that annoys you? And what important parts of the criminal life that are often overlooked would you like to be acknowledged?

  1. Not that I was ever some big-shot dealer or anything, but back when I was into that type of thing, the nicest people I ever met were dealers. They were into sales. I met a few crazies (including this one guy who thought that he was going to start a prison gang outside of prison and wanted us to ask his permission to make new friends). In general, though, these were guys who had a side hustle of selling something that turned into a bigger deal. I think the best example was these college kids who were selling a little pot on campus, then realized they could make so much more money selling things like coke and molly. Really nice guys. They were super excited this one time they made a new connection who gave them pure coke and wanted them to cut it themselves. It was worth it in their mind because then they would know how it was cut. They let me have a tiniest sample and it was crazy the difference between something pure and the shit they had before.

Anyway…the only time I ever really had a problem was dealing with really low-level guys with inflated egos. Most of them ended up in jail or the morgue. The college guys’ houses got raided by the FBI at some point, I heard from a friend, but they had already had a lawyer advise them on proper locking of things so that so much stuff was inadmissible because the cops were over-zealous. They got a misdemeanor charge despite having a large quantity of “hard” drugs.

  2. Everyone has this misconception that everyone in that lifestyle is bad but sometimes they’re just doing what they gotta do because that’s all they can do.🤷‍♂️

  3. this isn’t some sort of evil scheme against society or the government or some shit, its just a buisness with noticeable callateral damage. smugglers, thieves, bank robbers and all those are people who dont have or can’t get treditional jobs and need to put money on the table, a man’s gotta do what he’s gotta do to make a living

  4. Being a dealer is incredibly hard work. Driving around city centre at all hours, your phone hopping and customers expecting immediate drop offs bombarding your phone with txts and calls. Your phone ringing from night until 9am. Driving drunk, annoying customers to ATMS is painful (Revolut is a god send). Chasing debts is annoying (but giving out on credit is net positive because people take more than if they have to pay cash and they eventually pay it back)

People are morons. Same stuff, off same brick not mixed that they enjoyed a few nights before is suddenly garbage. Take it back, and then say you are ‘replacing’ it and bring the same bag back and suddenly its amazing again.

The most common way to transport drugs still is via human mule. Its easy to source a k in South or Central America but much harder to get it to its destination point.

On the above point if you see high level drug dealers very friendly with someone with many or large legitimate businesses you can guarantee theyre using the person’s legit business to import their drugs for them. A legit Timber exporter in Colombia and a legit Timber importer in lets say Scotland for example won’t arouse the same level of customs suspicion. Do a few dry imports then after awhile pack some of that imported Timber with kilos.

Most ‘hitmen’ are hired junkies who have a large bill to settle. At least in my country.

  5. When I was using we weren’t buying pills from some dude in an alley in a trench coat or from gangs on the street corner or whatever else my folks believe.

It was little old ladies selling their personal prescription trying to keep the lights on and their grandkids fed.

  6. what a nerd wannabe writer you are..did you just graduate or something?

you should volunteer a social centers to really get a feel for things, cuz this is just not going to work out junior.
