How were you disciplined at home as a child?

What do you think?

  1. The details of my life are quite inconsequential…. Very well, where do I begin?

My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low-grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a 15-year-old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet.

My father would womanize; he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes, he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy.

The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament…

My childhood was typical: summers in Rangoon… luge lessons… In the spring, we’d make meat helmets… When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds — pretty standard, really.

At the age of 12, I received my first scribe. At the age of 14, a Zoroastrian named Vilmer ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum — it’s breathtaking… I suggest you try it.

  2. My mother preferred isolation, my father preferred beating the shit out of me (I’m female btw). Both had bad effects in the long run, especially as isolation meant I was to go to my room as soon as I got home from school and stay there. Meals in my room. Stereo taken away, *books* taken away. Just me and my thoughts for sometimes two entire weeks.

  3. I was raised by a single mother who blamed herself (divorcing my abusive alcoholic father, financial troubles) for any of my shortcomings. Then I would feel bad for her and behave, so I was raised on guilt, and it’s generally how i discipline now…. like mother like son

  4. Hand spanking, I cried every time half to manipulate my way out of it but also half because I thought it meant they didn’t love me, always asked for a hug afterwards

  5. Mostly through restrictions of privileges — turning off the internet, taking my car keys, handing video game controllers, no hanging out with friends, etc. I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I was ever spanked.

  6. My brothers and I were pretty well behaved, we generally just did what our parents said. My mom would count to three if we weren’t listening, and rarely ever spanked us. When we were bad, we had time out, held a bar of soap in the mouth, or lost points when my parents kept a chore chart going (those were sporadic throughout my childhood, but not very consistent).

If I didn’t clean my room, my mom would take toys away, but usually give them back once I had been good/earned them back.

  7. Mum used to hit me, nowadays she just takes away your phone/laptop for a while. I love her

Dad still hits me at times, threw food at me and made me clean it up, smashed my old phone, tried to control my new phone that I worked and saved up for, threw a can at me then punched me after I talked back to him (without yelling), forces me to go to church even when I made it clear I hate church, barely does housework and yells at me “for not doing enough”, etc. I very much dislike him

  8. Really weird ways. If I was acting like a typical teenager and being grumpy my dad would tell me to go wash my elbows. If I was being rambunctious they give me a wiffleball bat and telling me to go outside and beat up a tree
