If human brains aren’t fully developed until around age 25, what do you think about the idea of raising the age of legal adulthood, voting, etc to 25?

  1. While it may be true that you’re not fully developed until 25, life is too short and demanding for you to not start contributing or working towards something well before then. And, when you contribute, you naturally feel entitled to the same privileges as other citizens, which for many can be 18 or younger (whenever you get a job)

  2. I may be 18 and not “fully developed”, but that doesn’t mean I’m incapable of making my own decisions and making a difference in the world. I don’t want to go back to being a kid who doesn’t know what they’re talking about

  3. Drinking/smoking/recreational drugs should be pushed to 25.

Being tried as an adult should be pushed to 21.

Voting should be unlocked when you get your first job, or when you turn 21 (whichever comes first).

  4. The problem with this is that it’s only an average. Some brains fully develop much earlier (and some, much later). Meaning that no matter what you set the age of majority (if it’s not done in a case-by-case basis), it is being set arbitrarily. And if it’s set arbitrarily then there is no justification not to set it to 18… which is what we’ve done.

  5. I think its a bad idea because it doesn’t do anything to filter out the stupid people, and young people are going to have to live with the repercussions. If anything there should be an age limit and incentivize the education of young ppl (not indoctrination)

  6. Raising the age to use drugs would be beneficial, tobacco, alcohol, weed, legal cocaine, etc. The change in impact on the brain is substantial.

For voting however, I think the age at 18 is fair. The earlier young people can get involved in the process the better, and they certainly deserve the right to vote on policies that I’m pervert future.

  7. What a shit idea. The youth are human kind’s only hope for change and you want to neuter their ability to vote for change until they’re 25???

    No. Effing. Thanks.

  8. Just because they’re not fully developed does not mean that they’re not developed enough to understand concepts and think them through. They’re cognitive processes aren’t as efficient as those of someone 25+, but they’re still there.
