  1. Vanish inside my own head and drown in existential crisis while having huge anxiety panic attacks about the speed in which time passes us by.

  2. I act annoyed because the people who sing it to me know that I’ll be annoyed by it, and that’s why they’re doing it so there’s no pressure to act happy about it.

  3. I haven’t had one of these since I was about 9 years old, yup. I was nine years old, and I remember all of the kids from my new neighborhood was there. I was showing off dancing and everything. I remember thinking this was probably going to be the last time something like this will ever happen for me. Just being a black kid and everything. I tried my best to feel special that day, but it evaporated quickly. I soaked it all up when they sang “happy birthday,” and remembered, that I am special that day because I was born, coincidently, and period!

  4. I enjoy it! Seriously, even if no one can carry a tune or they’re being goofy or whatever. We each only get so many birthdays, and here are people who choose to sing in praise of yours. Soak it in, enjoy it, and carry that positive memory with you.
