  1. Seriously: Cook for your loved ones.

If you’re one of those guys who thinks cooking is only something women should do, you’re missing out.

  2. Learn to love yourself. Or the ability to let things go. I’ve seen many men lose their lives for absolutely nothing instead of just walking away from conflict. Unless of course someone is in danger.

  3. Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Most of those “transients” you see on the street are actually very nice, normal people who just had a bad break.

  4. Camping. Like the full experience of fires, fishing to eat, whatever.

I know everyone is different, but even for a preppy guy like me, there’s nothing more peaceful yet purposeful than camping with friends or family, even if it’s just a weekend getaway. Being in nature and truly experiencing it…it’s the best. I haven’t done it in a few years, and I’m *dying* to do it again ASAP

  5. Travel alone – I’ve driven across the country and back and visited a few major cities that way and it’s fun. You do what you want when you want. Plus you usually meet interesting people.

  6. Climb a mountain that ends above the tree line. Don’t get your phone out for anything but a picture. Don’t listen to music, just get to the top.

    (Safely of course)

  7. Go out into the wilderness with nothing but a bag you’ve prepared yourself and survive for a month by nothing but your own wits and preparation.

It’s easy to just live in the world today. Everything is accessible, you have every convenience possible in existence. Try to live without all that for a while and see how you do, and see how you’ll react when you don’t know how to do something and you can’t call someone to do it for you.

You’ll learn a lot about yourself as a person.

Since a few people seem confused, you obviously don’t just head out into the woods to “be a man” without preparing for it, which is why I *specifically mentioned to prepare for it* 😀

  8. Take a flight lesson. It’s easier and cheaper than you think to take a lesson, and you will fly the plane yourself in the first lesson. Call a local flight school and ask for an “introductory flight”.

  9. Fix something, preferably something substantial. It’s a great feeling of accomplishment.

Or not. Eschew someone else’s view of what makes you “a man.” What makes a man is doing what he believes is good and right.
