  1. It’s not even a real question in Judaism. Getting a medical implant isn’t the same as eating. And even if it were, you’re allowed to eat forbidden foods if you’ll die otherwise. People act like this is some major groundbreaking question but it really isn’t.

  2. ‘[Pikuach nefesh](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pikuach_nefesh)’ is the idea in Jewish law that saving a life is more important than almost every religious rule.

In Islam, it is permitted to eat non-halal foods, such as pork, if facing starvation.

While there are no clearcut rules, those ideas in Isam and Judism may provide a precedent to justify using something from an unclean animal to save a human life. Of course, there is no central authority in either religion, so who knows what the various subdivisions, sects, or local leaders might think.

EDIT: Because of ‘Pikachu’ confusion, I added a link to Wikipedia for ‘[Pikuach nefesh](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pikuach_nefesh)’.

  3. I don’t take Thyroxine because it comes from porcine thyroid. I just live with minor hypothyroidism.

Also gonna stop buying collagen haircare since I found out it also comes from pigs.

  4. Even as a atheists I’m thinking about that pig liver… It’s got a fifth lobe to our stupid human four lobe liver. That’s a whole extra lobe I can drink away!

  5. Muslim here. If it’s going to save your life then it’s permissible. It’s not even a question. Hell, if eating a pig is going to save your life, and you’ve got no other option, then it is permissible to eat it.

  6. I asked my Muslim husband that question. He had to lean toward accepting the pig heart in the end because life is sacred and the religion does say health comes before religion. But it made him VERY uneasy. to be honest as a non Muslim I would not be to keen on receiving a pigs heart either.

  7. Well, it’s not exactly the same thing as consuming the pig right? And in Islam, if you need to eat a pig for survival and it’s the last thing in front of you, you should eat it. I’d imagine it would be a similar situation here
