[Serious] Americans of Reddit, would you be willing to pay a maximum of 5% extra when eating out if it meant servers were paid a decent wage and tipping could be abolished?

Tipping is just a bribe to get better service. The restaurant should just pay their employees at least minimum wage and enough to keep the employees they value and tipping should be outlawed for the shameful practice it is.

If tips were not a thing- a doubt servers would want to continue to serve. Some servers make hundreds a night. No restaurant is going to pay them that as a wage..
I have no problems with prices being higher to accommodate better wages. It wouldn’t even change my bill since that extra is paid in a tip anyway.
Absolutely. Give the cooks a raise too. I never tip less than 20%, what do I care if it’s built in?
Here in Canada any tip based jobs has a lower minimum wage.
I would say it would be best for everyone to get rid of the tip thing.
Less complicated for servers when it come to do their end-year tax.
Less complicated for clients too.
I don’t think 5% would do it
Absolutely.
Don’t waiters earn minimum wage?
I doubt people in the service industry would go for that. Bar tenders in New York get tipped well enough to live in New York. I doubt a restaurant would pay it’s works a livable wage, especially in a high cost of living area.
It would surely be cheaper than a 20% tip
