[Serious] John Denver, who wrote “Leaving On A Jet Plane”, ultimately died in ain airplane accident – what other other famous song lyrics came through for the singer/band in an ironical or eery (either bad or good) way?

  1. Elvis Presley – Memphis Tennessee:

The last time I saw Marie, she was waving me goodbye

With hurry home drops on her cheek that trickled from her eye

Marie is only six years old, information please

Try to put me through to her in Memphis, Tennessee

  2. Frightened Rabbit front man Scott Hutchison was always very open about his mental health striggles. Their music was largely based around the subject. He wrote a song called Floating In The Forth about drowning in the Forth river, including the line “I think I’ll save suicide for another year”.

He drowned in the Forth after jumping off the Forth Bridge.

If you haven’t heard of Frightened Rabbit please check them out. They were brilliant.

  3. Not 100% sure this fits your question but Ironic by Alanis Morrisette has no examples that are actually ironic so the whole song is ironic, because it isn’t ironic.
