  1. Physically remove yourself from your everyday surroundings. Go on a walk, find a new place to chill, and do it alone, just get out. And while you do that try not to think of anything that might be causing you pain. Just breathe, there is no pressure, there is no stress. There is nothing you can do during this time, you are there for the sole purpose of bettering yourself and clearing your mind.

  2. Go outside and go for a walk. Don’t do anything that requires planning such as hiking or driving.

When your brain is full of ideas and then you pile on more tasks like finding a hiking location etc., you can fall into analysis paralysis. We’ve all been there. You’re hungry and you scan Yelp for 3 hours before you fall asleep without having eaten. Then when you get up, you’re irritable, and you end up eating uncooked pop tarts that end up making you fat and giving you indigestion. And what, all because dad never taught me how to throw a baseball… I digress. Just go outside and let the sun kiss your skin. Or if it’s nighttime, look up at the stars. Your problems are relatively small in the big picture.

  3. A lot are saying weight lifting or some sort of fitness. Mine is a bit different. I still like heavy lifting and physical exertion but I need it to be constructive or destructive. I need to have a task to complete that shows that I have done something. Construction is the best because I can literally just drown myself with how to build something and solutions to issues that arise or may arise and all the while I have created something that, if nobody else does, I appreciate it.

  4. Just trying to find that out after 20 years on the sesh. After 2 weeks I’m not sure sobriety is for me. It’s SO boring. And if anything my problems are worse than ever. I hear that working out helps though!
