  1. Good food. We spent years scrimping and saving on our food budget when we were young and poor. Now if i want to eat it, i buy it. I don’t care what it costs.

  2. Mine would be spending extra on meat, fruit and veg straight from farms, I would genuinely pay 2x what I spend now for the quality and ethical benefits.

  3. Things that keep you grounded.

My bed was well over what my “budget” for a bed was (like 2 grand over budget) and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I also shell out for good brands of car tires over the cheapest option from the tire store. Another huge one for me is shoes; don’t cheap out on shoes.

Also food. I will spend extra on better brands for things like sauces, seasonings, deli meats, and stuff from the meat counter over pre-packaged or preserved foods.

  4. I never skimp on good bedding. If you’re lucky you spend 8 plus hours per night there. A quality mattress/topper and pillows are also very important for preventing short and long term back and neck pain

  5. Ramen. Seriously, if you are going to eat ramen then go to the local Asian grocery store and get the good stuff. There is no reason why ramen has to be a boring, bland meal.

Also your phone. If you are going to upgrade, get the best phone you can possibly afford with cash up-front. You use it more than almost anything else in your life, it makes no sense to skimp on a phone as long as you don’t have payments.

  6. Toilet paper. It’s the 21st century and I’m in a developed country- there’s no way I’m going to suffer through single ply just to save a euro.

  7. As a teacher: Expo markers. Expo markers last and erase easy. I have tried generic dry erase markers and the last about a 1/3 of the time and leave ink behind.

  8. Bath and body products like soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc. I am not cinvinced they all work better than some of the bargain brands but they smell soooo good!
