What is stopping the US from seeing marijuana reform at the federal level this year since it’s wildly popular in both political parties and amongst independents?

The elderly that run our government.

The corporate private prison system and the politicians it owns on all levels.
Corruption probably.
Lobbyists, disconnect between people and the legislature, and probably the opinions of the people who actually vote versus the opinion of the populace (that one is on the population).
Also the religious right.
There is more money to be gained from keeping it criminalized. It funds the prison system.
Corruption. Democrats are actually right wing just slightly less than Republicans.
