  1. I don’t mind the hoops to own a gun. I don’t mind certifying, or even mental checks. I’m black, due to history, most of us should be pro 2nd amendment.

  2. I’m pro-2A.

But I also believe it’s a major responsibility. I grew up training and shooting with my father. I grew up in a military household. I was taught to give DEADLY respect to firearms. They are tools, not toys.

As an adult, I live in a state that requires class certification and permitting. I was totally fine with that. I would have taken safety classes and instruction anyway, even though I’ve been shooting for 2+ decades. I’m totally fine with coursing and permits, as long as they aren’t money-making ventures.

Good gun owners ABHOR criminals. We do. We hate shitty gun owners who leave their guns unsecured to theft or to their kids, etc. We certainly hate criminals with illegal guns too. Good gun owners are law abiding citizens.

Also, the 2nd Amendment is just necessary. Criminals have guns, and they are fine breaking the law lol. And the Supreme Court has upheld several times that police are under NO RESPONSIBILITY to put the safety of the public over their own safety. And even if cops did want to risk their safety, there is just no way for them to reach a home invasion in seconds. At best they’ll be minutes away, and for most of the nation, cops cannot show up for over an HOUR. If you are in an emergency, you have to be able to defend yourself and your family.

Also, firearms are the “great equalizer” as such. A 70-yo frail old lady can defend herself effectively with a .38 special if she trains and knows how. Anyone can. So if a younger criminal tries to break in and assault her or whatever… she can actually defend herself. She cannot defend herself with a bat or knife.

  3. Gun ownership is not only correlated to self defense or bad motivation. Many gun owners are just collectors or Shooting is a hobby and sport for them. Many gun owners would probably not even be able to shoot someone even if it was self defense. As someone that has been in high stress situations like that. Its not as easy as you think mentally. I agree gun ownership should hold way way way more responsibility. I am very pro guns but there has to be accountability for every firearm.

  4. For me it’s kind of the nuclear warhead argument

Well there are certainly some proud boys out there I feel like in my life most of the people I talk to who own a gun admit to pretty much just buying it because well it’s the only way to really protect yourself against other people with guns and better be safe than sorry

  5. I carry every day , I don’t flaunt it , no one knows I’m carrying. I hope I never have to use it but I’m glad it’s there if I do . I practice weapon safety and lock it up . Practice on a regular and clean regular for weapons function and safety.

  6. If law abiding citizens can’t own them then criminals and criminal organizations will be the ones that have them. Why shouldn’t someone have the right to defend themselves?

  7. Encourage it for anyone who wants to consider it, particularly for those who are the targets of an at best apathetic and at worst outright hostile police force/government body.

  8. When every second counts, the police are minutes away.

Having said that, I don’t carry a gun in public with me. It’s for *home* defense; nothing else.

  9. Criminals who use guns to commit crimes (anything from armed robbery to murder, etc.) probably aren’t going to give a damn about whatever laws we could make to try and restrict them from getting a gun. If they want it bad enough, they will acquire one.

We should not leave law-abiding people unarmed so that they are soft targets for these people. You can’t always rely on the police to show up quick enough, or as recent events in the news have shown, to even do their jobs well enough to protect people.

I don’t view guns as a left vs right issue. I think everyone who wants to own one should be able and I hope that those who have them are never put in a situation where they need to use them on another person. But as the saying goes: it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Also, the government can’t put a gun to your head to do whatever they want as easily if a large portion of the population is armed. I think that’s pretty important too.

  10. If you want one and can legally possess one, go get one. If you don’t want one, don’t go get one. But if you’re going to sit there and be rah rah and anti-gun, know what the fuck you’re talking about.

  11. I think that you should be allowed to own anything you want as long as you have no mental health issues and go through a more extreme background checks .

  12. I own a handgun and am going to get my concealed carry in the next few months. I would also like to maybe start collecting older guns. Guns are fine to own, its just the US is really bad at making sure the wrong people don’t end up with one.

  13. That the US should do what the UK did after A SINGLE school shooting. Have more checks and restrictions. Here in the UK it’s easy as fuck to get a gun, as long as you aren’t a psychopathic POS and pass the checks. My teacher had like 3 shotguns that she would use multiple times every week.
