The Amber Heard Trial.
Pretty much any time you see lawmakers talking about “sodomy” (or more recently, “bathrooms”) it’s just a distracting dogwhistle while some kind of fucked up voter suppression or corporate financial fuckery gets quietly fast-tracked.
The Gulf of Tonkin incident. It was an attack by the North Vietnamese that never actually happened, which then was used by Congress to give Johnson the authority to deploy troops.
Amazing how history essentially repeated itself with the Iraq war.

I kind of feel like the m&ms people were hoping the “woke” mascots would cause a right wing hissy fit to distract from how unethically chocolate is sourced. I can’t prove it but that’s what I think
