Why haven’t cereal manufacturers discovered ziplock packaging?

  1. It costs slightly more so they don’t use it. Even if it’s a 1 penny difference in manufacturing cost, they would rather pocket that 1 penny. Not to mention they would have to retool their manufacturing and that’s a large one-time cost.

    They’ve probably already thought about it and determined that the added convenience to consumers wouldn’t increase sales enough to justify the initial and ongoing cost.

  2. There are cheaper cereals that come in bags (don’t know about zip-loc). But, the major brands want to prevent breakage of the product AND put it in a larger box to make it look like you’re getting more. Also, boxes are easier to put on shelves, and neater when customers start taking some. Selling cereal is all about presentation.
