WTF is every newspaper talking about freaking monkey pox non-stop? Despite each article explaining how it is not posing any risk of being a pandemic? How forked up has this world become?

  1. To some degree we should be careful. But most news sites are most likely trying to distract the public from the states failures. Here in Denmark they use the Monkey pox as a cover up as tool to distract us from an upcoming referendum.

  2. 24/7 ‘news’ comes at a price.

Look at it this way – at least monkey pox is a step up from worrying about what kind of shoes the Green M&M is wearing.

When you need to come up with a new ‘burning topic’ each day – you are going to wind up reaching for some pretty absurd stories.

  3. For the same reason that the news couldn’t shut up about swine flu, or bird flu, or Ebola, or any other disease that seemed sexy and super threatening at that time. It sells.

  4. People keep blaming media for it but tbh,

That’s all our faults y’all. Humans are the ones who choose to fall victim to the clickbait and visiting these tabloid sites/buying these newspapers. They have no power without us tbh.

Also stop worrying about Monkeypox anymore than you should Ebola. Yes you can get it, but your odds, especially being in a first world country, are basically next to none.

  5. WTF is every Reddit post talking about freaking monkey pox non-stop? Despite each comment section explaining how it is not posing any risk of being a pandemic? How forked up has this world become?

  6. Quality journalism takes time. Time raises the costs. And newspapers are running short on money, because Google and Facebook are sucking up the biggest share of every marketing budget out there. Because running adds on Social is a far better investment than running them on traditional newspapers.

And to come back to the newspaper: They have to produce articles to fill their pages. So the copy texts they buy relatively cheap from some news agency. That’s how the business is working nowadays.

  7. We’re in a different situation now.

The swine influenza, the bird flu were all scary things back in the day. Monkeypox, to my knowledge, fits in with those two.

But now, since we had a global covid epidemic, we kindof have to say that monkeypox is scary but it’s nothing like we had with covid.

  8. And they’ve all pretty much completely dropped Covid with cases rising all over the place. Monkey pox is new and Covid is old and worn out.
