Let’s get this started shall we?
Years ago, you know, before the dinosaurs, I was a kid camping up with a program for inner city kids. They took us upstate and had us camping over the weekend in the middle of the forest.
Obviously, this was well before smartphones and even widespread cell phone usage, so the hottest tech we had was the GBA.
It’s 2am or so, and suddenly in the night we all wake up to this beeping sound coming from within the trees. It’s faint, but loud enough to make out.
Wasn’t anything to bothersome, but it would seem like it would get closer and then fade out. We were all so scared to move, as there were 6 of us inside the tent total.
Suddenly, our counselor who is no more then a college kid getting paid to babysit comes in to check on us, and pulls us out one by one, and brings us to where the other kids and counselors are. To this day, I still remember the horror on their face. They were scared and couldn’t hide it.
We all stood there in the dark huddled together for hours, just listening to the beeps come and go, until it just faded away fully.
No one ever slept and we all walked out of the forest come first light. Never really mentioned it to anyone until I returned to volunteer as a teenager years later.
One of my counselors was a head there and I brought it up and we talked about it. Wasn’t my imagination like I thought.
Turns out no one knew was it was and when they asked the head of the camp at the time, we were supposed to be the only ones up there.
Still creeps me out to this day. Never knew what it was.
(Edit: everyone joked around that it was an old camp legend named “buck naked joe” but definitely don’t want to be encountering a naked dude in the forest anyways!)
Remote site (small town far away) that had about 20 PC’s. Creepy starts that I’m in this office overnight alone trying to wire up ethernet after a server rack mishap which involved reterminating a bunch of cables. All reterminated and connected to a switch at this point. The office is dead silent, the only hum is from the switch. I’m taking a break, eating a sandwich and all of a sudden the printers and all the PC’s started powering up from sleep or whatever. Fucking startled me as I was in the middle. You’d think that’s creepy? The machines all started installing updates! The goddamn WAN wasn’t even plugged in.
