TIL That the date of February 30, 1712, was a real date on the Swedish calendar, created after the Swedish Empire’s attempts to convert to the Gregorian Calendar backfired, leading them to convert back to the Julian Calendar by adding Feb 30.

TIL after General Dwight D. Eisenhower found victims of Nazi concentration camps, he anticipated that in the future there would be attempts to deny what happened. He ordered all possible pictures taken, and had Germans from surrounding villages to be ushered through the camps and bury the dead.

TIL about Kriegspiel, a chess variant where each player can see their own pieces, but not those of their opponent. Players attempt to move on their turns, and the umpire declares their attempts ‘legal’ or ‘illegal’. If the move is illegal, the player tries again; if it is legal, that move stands.
