TIL – The first automotive recall was for the Ford Model T due to chigger bites. Ford either used Spanish Moss for seat padding or Spanish Moss as stuffing for Cypress wood crates, with the Cypress being used for the dashboard. Both items created a small ecosystem for the chiggers.

TIL The first written record of rabies is in the Mesopotamian Codex of Eshnunna (c. 1930 BC), which dictates that the owner of a dog showing symptoms of rabies should take preventive measures against bites. If another person were bitten by a rabid dog and later died, the owner was heavily fined.

TIL of Weird Al’s dark humor. In his song Another One Rides the Bus, spoofing Queen’s Another One Bites the Dust, Weird Al sings “I haven’t been in a crowd like this since I went to see ‘The Who’.” A reference to The Who’s 1979 Cincinatti concert where eleven people died in the crush of the crowd.
