TIL of Marvin Clark. Disappearing in 1926 at age 73, his is the oldest active missing person case in America. The latest development was a 2018 DNA test of remains found near where he was last seen, 92 years after he disappeared. The test was negative, and his case remains unsolved.

TIL actor Clark Gable flew combat missions with the US Army during WWII. During one mission, a shell ripped through the heel of his shoe and missed his head by 30 cm. A year later, his discharge papers were signed by then-Captain Ronald Reagan.

TIL the oldest active missing person case in the US is over 95 years old. On Halloween weekend in 1926, Marvin Clark left his Tigard, OR home to meet his daughter in Portland. A body was found between the 2 cities in 1986 but DNA testing in 2018 determined it was not him.

TIL The Misfits (1961 film) was the last completed film for both Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe, with Gable dying two days after filming ended. In August 2018, an un-released nude scene where Marilyn Monroe exposes herself while making love with Clark Gable’s character was discovered.

TIL the “snake oil salesman” is attributed to Clark Stanley who gained national attention marketing snake oil at the 1893 World’s Fair. In 1916 a USDA analysis concluded there was no snake oil in his concoction at all, and that it was 99% mineral oil. He was fined $20 ($543.69 in 2022).
