TIL humans are experts at sweating. In 1 hour, a horse can lose about 100grams of water per sq meter of skin. However, a human can easily shed 500grams per sq meter, which helped our ancestors become unrivalled predators as we can stalk prey until they collapse from heat exhaustion

With school shooting, ongoing war in Europe, food shortage and impending financial collapse all over the world. Along with new diseases popping up (either naturally or man made)… where is the world heading towards? How to keep the positive flowing without turning blind eye to the news?

TIL computer scientist Jean-Marc Salotti calculated that in order to survive, a human colony on Mars would need at least 110 indidivuals. At this number, growth would offset many of the factors that could lead to collapse of the society.

TIL Sir Roger Bannister was the first man to run a mile in under four minutes in 1954. Before that, most people thought the four-minute mark was impossible to break. They thought the human body couldn’t physically go that fast and that it would collapse under the pressure.

Does the term “climate change” need to be rebranded? Has it been tuned out by the public. What would be a better alternative? In a survey I did in a subreddit, “Environmental Collapse” was the most popular choice? Do you agree? Or, do you have a better alternative?

TIL 18th century painter Theodoor Wilkens was sketching the ruins of an town in Rome with a crowd watching him. The crowd’s movement on the edge of the town caused a building to collapse. The crowd concluded that he was practicing witchcraft and he had to storm out of the city.

TIL the 2004 earthquake/tsunami caused a 1,500m high ridge along the fault to collapse, generating landslides. One landslide consisted of a single block of rock some 100m high and 2 km long. The momentum of the water also dragged massive slabs of rock, each weighing millions of tons, as far as 10km.

TIL the goal of the 1993 WTC bombing was to collapse the North Tower into the South Tower, destroying both. The building’s architect testified that the plan likely would have succeeded if the bomb had been placed slightly closer to the building’s foundation.
