TIL the BBC initially refused to publish Richard Dimbleby’s eye witness account of Belsen concentration camp in April 1945, they didn’t believe it was as terrible as he described. It’s estimated 70,000 people died at Belsen. The BBC only agreed to broadcast after Dimbleby threatened to resign.

TIL after General Dwight D. Eisenhower found victims of Nazi concentration camps, he anticipated that in the future there would be attempts to deny what happened. He ordered all possible pictures taken, and had Germans from surrounding villages to be ushered through the camps and bury the dead.

TIL: The claim that the German public did not know about the concentration camps’ atrocities, generally made by Germans after Berlin fell in 1945 and accepted by most historians is false. Most of what happened in the camps were spread through German news in a process of “desensitization”.
