TIL about Jani Schofield – diagnosed w/ schizophrenia at age 6 & was feat. on Oprah. It was Munchhausen by Proxy by mother Susan, who admitted on Dr. Phil show to dr. shopping for psych meds, she lost custody of Jani and brother Bodhi in 2019. Her parental rights to Bodhi have since been terminated.

TIL of Minik Wallace, a Greenlandic child brought to New York in 1897 and studied by a museum, who held custody. After many of his companions died of tuberculosis, the museum faked a burial of his father and secretly put his skeleton on display. 20 years later, Minik would die in 1918 of influenza.

TIL of Ishmael LaBeet, who was convicted of murdering 8 in the US Virgin Islands in 1972. Still in custody, he hijacked the plane that was transferring him to a mainland US prison in 1984 and rerouted to Cuba, where he has lived ever since.
