TIL that in August, 1976 North Korean soldiers killed two American soldiers attempting to cut down a tree in the De-militarized Zone. In response the US and South Korea sent 873 infantry-men including special forces, 27 helicopters and multiple fighter jets and bombers in order to cut down the tree.

TIL, in 1950s, North Korea established a village called Kijong-Dong, also known as the Peace Village, which was designed only for propaganda. It is situated in the North’s half of the Korean Demilitarized Zone, and to this day it has no residents. Western media refer to it as ‘Propaganda Village’.
