Til Dave Winfield chose the San Diego Padres for his Hall of Fame logo due to differences with Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. Steinbrenner signed Winfield for $16 million unaware of a cost of living clause in the contract which raised the cost to $23 million resulting in an ongoing public feud.
