TIL that the ‘giants’ of Norse stories are not necessarily giants. They are usually referred to as Jötnar, which means ‘the devouring ones’ because of their embodiment of chaos. The word ‘giant’ in English translations of Norse myths is probably a result of a mistranslation by medieval scholars.
