TIL planets are round because of gravity. A planet’s gravity pulls equally from all sides. Gravity pulls from the center to the edges like the spokes of a bicycle wheel.

TIL that one of the big challenge faced by the animators of The little mermaid(1989) was making Ariel’s hair move properly in underwater. They solved this by modelling her hair based on astronaut Sally Ride’s hair in zero gravity conditions

TIL the ISS is only weightless because it’s in orbit (therefore constantly falling) not because of its distance from the earth. An airplane at the same altitude, under its own power would have 89% as much gravity as the earth’s surface.

TIL When you stand, your body compensates for gravity by constricting blood vessels, ensuring that enough blood returns to your brain. In people with orthostatic hypotension, this mechanism fails and their blood pressure drops, leading to dizziness, lightheadedness, blurred vision and fainting.

TIL: The U.S. Air Force experimented with tossing cats in zero gravity inside a diving airplane in order to test cats’ well-known ability to orient themselves upright while falling. The zero-gravity appeared to disorient the cats.
