TIL. From 1966 until his death in 1987. Rudolph Hess was the sole inmate at the 800 cell Spandau prison. Allied nations provided guards on a monthly rotation.

TIL That there was a plot to kill or kidnap George Washington early in the Revolutionary War – the traitors were from Washington’s Life Guards, similar to today’s Secret Service. One of the traitors was the first person to be put to death for treason, Thomas Hickey, in front of 20,000 people.

TIL that when Sacheen Littlefeather declined an Oscar on behalf of Marlon Brando in 1973, it took six security guards to hold John Wayne back from charging onstage to attack her; she was only allowed to speak for 60 seconds despite holding a pages-long speech penned by Brando, who refused to attend.

Several years ago, Andy was sentenced to prison. During his stay, he got along well with the guards and all his fellow inmates. The warden saw that deep down, Andy was a good person and made arrangements for Andy to learn a trade while doing his time.

TIL Llamas can be used as guards against coyote attacks on sheep herds. Studies have proven that just one guard llama is an effective protector and can even kill the attacking coyotes.
