TIL about the RNA world hypothesis. The many roles of RNA in protein synthesis, including the ribozyme nature of the peptidyl transferase activity of the ribosome, suggest that RNA evolved as an informational biopolymer before proteins, and even before DNA (and presumably before cells).

TIL about the giant-impact hypothesis. It says that 4.5 billion years ago, a planet called Theia collided with Earth. The collision resulted in the formation of the Moon and much of the water on Earth is from Theia. The remains of Theia can be found on both Earth and the Moon.

TIL About The Kurgan hypothesis. That a group of peoples 6,000 to 8,000 years ago, whose language is now related to 440 others, spread across Europe and parts of Asia. Their word “lox” has survived unchanged for 8,000 years and means/pronounced the same as it is today in English.
