TIL that Keye Luke (Number One Son, Blind Master Po from Kung Fu, and the old shopkeeper from Gremlins) was a successful artist before he was an actor. He painted murals for Grauman’s Chinese Theater, illustrated books and sheet music, and designed movie posters, including one for King Kong.

TIL in 2011, Jayme Gordon tried to sue Dreamworks after falsely claiming he created Kung Fu Panda. During the trial it was revealed his evidence was fabricated from a 1996 Lion King coloring book. He was sentenced to two years in prison for fraud and perjury.

TIL Karate changed it’s spelling from 唐手 to 空手, changing it’s meaning from “Chinese hand” to “empty hand” (both are pronounced karate). This was because of Japanese militarism, they wanted to conceal the fact that it developed under the influence of Chinese kung fu.

TIL In 2008, a man altered an old story he had written to resemble Kung Fu Panda, then sued DreamWorks for $12 million. After the court found out he was lying, he was sentenced to 2 years in prison.
