TIL research suggests “huh?” is a universal syllable. It’s used to express confusion in at least 31 different languages, e.g. Icelandic, Dutch, Japanese, Hungarian, Lao, the Aboriginal Australian language Murriny Patha, Cha’palaa (spoken by 3k indigenous Ecuadorians), and of course, English.

TIL about Silbo Gomero, a language spoken entirely by whistling. Developed by natives of La Gomera, Canary Islands. The language enabled long distance communication across the deep ravines and narrow valleys of the island, allowing messages to be exchanged over distances up to 5km (3.1mi).
