TIL that after Freddie Mercury died, his parents burned (almost) all his belongings in accordance with his religion, Zoroastrianism. His stamp collection resides at The Postal Museum.

TIL when Frank Zappa was a kid, he always played with mercury that his father brought home from work, often covering his entire bedroom floor with the element. Childhood exposure to mercury is known to increase the risk of prostate cancer as an adult. Frank Zappa died from prostate cancer at age 52.

TIL that plumb bobs – suspended weights used to ensure that buildings are coming up straight – are incredibly old and yet are still widely used today. In fact, other than various blades, plumb bob is one of the most common tools in the Bible. Some plumb bobs were filled with mercury to dampen them

TIL In the mid to late 1800s arsenic was used to make green dye in clothing, wallpaper, and drapes. Combined with the mercury that was used in hats, fashion was deadly indeed!

TIL Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson collaborated on a unfinished track. This was officially blamed on scheduling conflicts, but other sources claim that Mercury dropped out after feeling uncomfortable working with Jackson’s pet llama in the studio.
