TIL in 2002, John Muhammad (41) & Lee Malvo (17) went on a random killing spree known as the D.C. Sniper Attacks. However, their rampage actually began months before on the West Coast. They murdered 17 people (injured 10) in Washington, Arizona, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Maryland, Virginia, & DC.

Today I learned that serial killer Amy Archer-Gilligan, who ran a nursing home and murdered some of the residents, and one of her husbands, was the inspiration behind the Cary Grant movie, “Arsenic and Old Lace.”

TIL that after Sam Cooke sang “A Change is Gonna Come” on The Tonight Show (Feb 7, 1964), the network lost the only recording of the performance. Cooke elected never to perform it again in his lifetime (he was murdered in Dec of ’64), due to the song’s complexity and ominous nature.

TIL that a Korean serial killer named Yoo Young-chul was caught in 2004 because a brothel owner just happened to recognize Yoo’s phone number after other prostitutes—who were murdered by Yoo—had gone missing.

TIL that in 1985, a woman named Dawn Smith worked with the FBI to draw out a serial killer who had murdered her sister Shari, talking to him by phone multiple times, even after he said God told him to kill her too. The following year, Dawn was 1st runner up in the Miss America pageant.

TIL: Ken McElroy, known as “the town bully,” was murdered in 1982 in front of 30-46 witnesses by at least two shooters. But nobody saw anything, and the murder remains unsolved. Fascinating story.
