Dear pro-lifers: People are given a choice whether or not they want to be organ donors after they die. How is that different from giving women the choice of whether or not they want to carry a fetus to term?

TIL that here has never been a documented case of rabies being transmitted by one human biting another. All of the recorded cases of human-to-human transmission of rabies occurred through organ transplants from infected donors.

TIL that a 639-year performance based on composer John Cage’s “As Slow as Possible” started in September 2001 and is still playing at St. Buchard Church in Germany. The performance by an automated organ plays so slowly that visitors have to wait months for a chord change. It’s set to end in 2640.

TIL about H. Barry Jacobs, a Virginia business man who, in 1983, planned a business to buy and sell human organs on the open market. This led to the creation of the National Organ Transplant Act of 1984, which outlawed selling organs for profit in the United States.

TIL that Martin Luther King’s mother was also assassinated. A man who believed Christianity was harming African Americans gunned her down as she played the organ in church. He was sentenced to death but this was commuted to life imprisonment because the Kings opposed capital punishment.

My(32nb, ethnically ambiguous) child (he/they/she, brown, 6, trans mtf -tm) was told their exterior, protruding feminine sex organ is actually a penis, by someone at school. I (32,nb) went and yelled at the teacher(46, m, CIS, WHITE) for allowing a transphobic statement to occur on the playground.

TIL that a nuclear worker in Japan was exposed to 17 Sieverts of radiation (twice the amount that should kill a person). He was kept alive for 83 days, suffering serious radiation burns to his body, severe organ failure, and an almost zero white blood cell count.

TIL that Placenta is a flat cake from ancient Greece and Rome consisting of many dough layers interspersed with a mixture of cheese and honey. It is flavoured with bay leaves, baked and then covered in honey. The temporary fœtal organ was named after this cake thanks to its flat round shape.
