TIL, Rovaniemi’s buildings 90% destroyed during WWII. When the city was rebuilt, the new city plan was designed by Alvar Aalto architect, who planned the city’s footprint in the shape of a reindeer’s head, with the city roads forming the antlers, and the local sports stadium as the reindeer’s eye.

TIL the last writers strike in 2008 led the first season of Breaking Bad to be two episodes shorter and kept Hank Schrader (Dean Norris) alive. He was originally planned to be killed off first season.

TIL that as revenge for Oscar Wilde being in a relationship with his son, The Marquess Of Queensbury planned to present Wilde with a bouquet of rotten vegetables at the opening night of The Importance Of Being Earnest, Wilde’s hit play. But Wilde was tipped off and stopped Queensbury getting inside.

TIL that Craig Ferguson, the host of The Late Late Show would rip up his blue note cards (which contained potential questions for guests) as a way of signifying that what was coming wasn’t really planned. Sometimes, that brought a lot of empty riffing with a celebrity who just couldn’t keep up.

What are your post apocalyptic survival strategies for things such as obtaining water, food, preventing infection, generating power, purifying water and generally surviving under the presumption that you haven’t pre planned with bunkers or whatever?

TIL that when Jack Grimm tried to find the Titanic in 1980, he planned to take a monkey called Titan that was trained to point to the wreck on a map. The monkey was left behind when scientists objected. Grimm never found the wreck, despite his sonar traveling right over it.
