TIL that the Michael Myers mask used in Halloween (1978) was originally a Star Trek Capt. Kirk mask. The film had a limited budget, so the production crew bought the cheapest mask they could find at a Halloween store.

TIL Chicory has been a historic substitute for coffee. Frederick the Great banned coffee in Prussia which led to the mass production of chicory by 1795 and the chicory drinks were common in Napoleonic France. Chicory drinks also became popular in Confederate states because of the Union blockade.

TIL that during the production of Superman(1978), Gene Hackman was reluctant to shave his moustache, only acquiescing when Richard Donner promised to do the same. After getting it shaved, Hackman went to Donner to fulfil his end of the bargain. Donner responded by tearing off his fake moustache.

TIL Since 2018 all new cars sold in the United States and Canada have had to include a backup camera. The first mass production car to include a backup camera was the Toyota Soarer in 1991, though concept cars such as the 1956 Buick Centurion had the feature aswell.
