TIL: In 1961, a car dealership sent three unmodified Chevy Corvairs on a trip from Chicago to Buenos Aires, as a promotional stunt. There were no roads through Panama’s Darién Gap, so the drivers had to hack and slog their way through 60 miles of jungle. Nevertheless, two Corvairs made it through.

TIL in 1980, in an attempt to rescue six US embassy workers stranded in Iran after the Embassy was stormed, the CIA created an entire fake movie called “Argo”, with a screenplay, cover art, as well as having promotional material distributed. The diplomats then pretended to be filmmakers and escaped.
