TIL that a 90s Canadian action series, “Tropical Heat”, became a suprise hit in Serbia. The main character (Rob Stewart’s “Nick Slaughter”) became a hero and symbol of the 1996 opposition against Slobodan Milošević, and no one from the show was aware of the cult status it reached there until 2008.

TIL on the JH-7 fighter jet’s maiden flight (12/07/1988), its engines started vibrating so wildly that by the time it reached the airfield, none of its instruments worked anymore since their connections to the panel had all shaken loose. Nonetheless, the pilot managed to land the prototype safely.

TIL that when a bee hive becomes too full, bees will form a “Senate” comprised of older, more experienced bees to seek a new location. When a bee finds a good spot, it begins dancing to motion other bees toward it. Then, they vote on it by dancing as a collective until a consensus is reached.

TIL U.S. songwriter Billy Davis rewrote a UK jingle for the Coca-Cola Company. The song ‘Buy the World A Coke’ was rewritten again because people kept calling radio stations asking for the tune to be played. It subsequently became “I’d Like to Teach The World to Sing” and reached #13 on Billboard.

TIL that Magnus Carlsen, the world’s highest rated chess player and world chess champion since 2013, is also a prolific fantasy football player. In 2019 he briefly reached first place on the Fantasy Premier League rankings, but Carlsen believes that his success was due to a stroke of good luck.
