TIL Mongooses are natural predators of snakes because a mutation in their nicotinic acetylcholine receptors makes them immune to the snakes alpha-neurotoxin as it’s unable to bind to the receptor. Hedgehogs, honey badgers, and opossum are also immune.

TIL that dogs can actually see COLOURS!!! Dogs can perfectly see yellows and blues. Unlike humans, they miss the receptors to see some colours particularly in the red to green range.

TIL that there is a rare condition called tetrachromacy, which allows some people, mostly women, to see 100 million different colors, due to having four color receptors. This is far more than the 1 million shades normal people can see with their 3 color receptors.

TIL that there was once somehow a misconception that infants (not fetuses) somehow don’t feel pain, with researchers merely assuming that newborns didn’t have fully developed and functioning pain receptors. Unsurprisingly, that is inaccurate.
