TIL: While in her mid 40’s Rose Blumkin who knew little English started a company in 1937 with 500 dollars and grew it to the biggest furniture business in the US & was acquire by W. Buffet in 1983. Later in her mid 90’s started a rival company that Buffet had to purchase again yet again.

TIL Tom Seaver was named on 425 out of 430 ballots for the Baseball Hall of Fame. 3 were blank as a protest against Pete Rose being ineligible. One was sent by a writer recovering from surgery who did not notice Seaver’s name and one never voted for any player in their first year of eligibility.

TIl: James Cameron drew all the pictures in Jack’s sketchbook. In fact, the hands seen sketching Rose wearing the necklace are not Jack’s but Cameron’s. Since he is left-handed and Jack right-handed, the shots were mirror-imaged in post-production.

TIL sperm oil(whales) was used in automotive transmissions until the 1970s. When they stopped using it, transmission failures rose significantly.
