TIL “Cityspeak”, the pidgin street language incorporating Japanese/Spanish/German/etc.. used in Blade Runner & Blade Runner 2049 wasn’t in Philip K. Dick’s book, but was actually devised by “Gaff” actor Edward James Olmos while researching his character for the film.

TIL Dean Karnazes, known for running 350 miles (563km) in 80 hours, didn’t start running professionally until he was 32 years old – he was a great runner in school, but after complications with his high school track coach, he stopped running for 15 years.

TIL John Edward Allen, who was hired by Ozzy Osbourne as a “personal dwarf” in 1981-83 and renamed by Ozzy as “Ronnie” to mock Ronnie James Dio, also acted in movies such as Blade Runner. He was hung on stage every night as part of the show. He died of an overdose at the age of 49.

TIL The term “Anchorman” or “Anchor” used to refer to a News Presenter is derived from its use in relay racing, specifically the ‘anchor leg’, the position given to the most experienced runner. It was first used in 1948 for the show “Who Said That?” to refer to permanent cast member John Swayze.

TIL that The Blade Runner Director’s Cut only exists because a Warner Bros. executive accidentally gave a theater Scott’s personal cut which he had left in a screening room. His cut garnered critical acclaim prompting Warner Bros. to allow him to make an official version.
